Details: Revolution (Selamectin) is a veterinary medication used for parasite protection for cats and dogs. The active ingredient in Revolution is Selamectin, which interferes with the parasite’s nervous system. Revolution (Selamectin) is a once a month topical treatment that is an effective heartworm preventive, killing the immature form of the heartworm. It kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month and is also used for the treatment and control of ear mites, controlling tick infestations and sarcoptic mange. You will need a prescription from your veterinarian to buy Revolution (Selamectin).
You should not use Revolution if your pet is younger than six weeks of age. Your veterinarian can tell you just how much Revolution (Selamectin) to give to your pet based on age, weight and breed. Revolution (Selamectin) works on the surface for the fleas, but concentrations of it also go into the blood stream to ward off heart disease and inner working parasites.
You should not use Revolution on your pet when he or she is wet. It is actually better to wait a few days after bathing before you administer Revolution (Selamectin) because it works along the oils of the skin. This medication contains alcohol and should not be applied to any open wounds your dog or cat may have. The solution should not be massaged into the skin. Simply allow it to get on the surface and it will do the rest.
There are a few side effects associated with Revolution (Selamectin). Hair loss is the most common one, but your pet may also experience inflammation, decreased appetite, and skin redness, welts, hives, and sluggishness, lack of coordination, rapid breathing, vomiting, or salivation. If you talk to your veterinarian about your pet’s medical history prior to putting him or her on Revolution, you may be able to decrease the chances of risks. You should tell your doctor about any medicines your cat or dog is taking and what medical problems he or she has had in the past. Also mention any drug allergies that you know your pet has.
